Joachim Koester is known for his ability to weave fact and fiction, reality and myth. Focusing on occurrences of mysticism and the occult as well as the more surreal moments from our cultural and social histories, Koester examines events in time that have become more than the sum of their parts.

What connects this exhibition that references Smithson, praying mantises and the Wild West at first appears dauntingly incongruous but each work is unified by the revelation that space and time are never neutral. Camden Arts Centre Danish artist Joachim Koester transforms the galleries with an immersive installation comprising 16mm film projection, digital video, photography and audio works. Collectively, they span the last 12 years of his practice, revealing wide-ranging fascinations held together by a persistent enquiry into the boundaries of apparent reality and a quest to uncover hidden aspects of Joachim Koester’s installations, films and photographs interweave historical and fictional narratives as a method to re-examine counter-cultural and spiritual practices.
